DISCUSSION BETWEEN BODY AND SOUND

Satu and Pia 2020

 Pia Freund:

“The skin is open, the flesh is relaxed”

"Let your whole body breathe…"

Among other things, these thoughts expressed by teachers during dance classes made me shudder;  this has just been said as well as what I myself have always thought about the flow of breath and song.

With my own dance studies, my singing pedagogy took on new wings - I set out to explore how the idea of “the whole body sings” could even better express and convey the emotions suggested by the text and music through the freedom and energy of movement. How could the singing body be even more wonderfully liberated to sense the flow of breath, including the dynamics of silence. I am interested in  sound resonance, which can get an echo base from grounding the body. Grounding allows the body to chain and energy to flow freely.

Satu Rekola:

I find it important to concretize things through various exercises and images that raise body awareness. Everyone works from their own point of view.

Pia:

Yes!

I am interested in the uniqueness of each instrument, its personality.

Fairy tale:

There has been much discussion about corporeality, and that the body is not an instrument but a “dwelling place of man” and at the same time a bond with the world. In my teaching, I try to bring out that the body is always alive and experiencing, present.

Pia:

Also at the song I feel it is important to disassemble the instrumentalization of the body. Rather, it’s fascinating how voice and body can take poetry and music even further — bringing their own soul, body memories, and memory into it.

Fairy tale:

Looking at my own dance and teaching, I can see that at the heart of it is the perceptual body that verifies and dances its own existence. I think the source of the dance is the being body, not the performing body.

Pia:

Listening to the body sensitizes the senses to receive emotional states in music and poetry, even surprising, unexpected impulses, and to make suggestions themselves. I think this is an issue in music communication.

From these reflections on my own instrument, a pedagogical play of thought emerged from the dancing voice, “Dancing Voice”. My working partner was dance artist Satu Rekola and my pianist was Taina-Maaria Rautasuo. Together we teach voice-movement courses both privately and at the invitation of different colleges.

PIA FREUND - ELIAS HUSGAFVEL

The stages of the musicals await Elias Husgafvel

New York and AMDA, the American Musical and Dramatic Academy, opened its doors to 21-year-old Elias Husgafvel in the fall of 2020. The journey to the number one Academy of Music and Drama Academy has been behind hard work and rehearsal.

Elias' teacher, opera singer Pia Freund, who created an international career, knows what it takes to create a career. Thus, his pedagogy includes the widest possible perspective; knowledge of style, interpretation of languages, mastery of languages, studying acting - these are all elements from which radiant stage work is born.

The foundation of everything must, of course, be the creation of a strong and natural sound technique, which Elias has soon built under his leadership from the corporeal, implementing the Dancing Voice method. When the song is based on a strong but sensitive sensory body, the interpretive color spectrum is released.
